Part II:
Essay Portion of Exam (50% of Exam Grade)

Choice A: Choose a character from any work we've covered this year (play, poem, short story) and discuss the significance of the character's presence within, or as a reader of, three pieces of literature from three different time periods within British Literature.

For example, if this essay required you to discuss American Literature, your thesis might be something like this:
Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth would superficially condone the religious puritanism of Colonialism, shun the ideas promulgated in the Revolutionary period, and embrace dark, Modern satire.

Choice B: Pick a favorite character from the readings and write an essay depicting that character's time travel through three periods of British literary history. One period can be the character's own. The character's adventures MUST highlight major aspects of the period and you must footnote where that occurs.

YOU MAY BRING YOUR NOTES AND YOUR BOOKS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE DAY OF YOUR SENIOR EXAM. YOU WILL HAVE 40 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE ESSAY
