“My Turn” Reflective essay

  1. Reflective essay analysis: Choose three “My Turn” essays that are reflective, not persuasive, in nature from Newsweek magazine.
  2. Using the EGHS Reflective Writing Rubric, analyze chosen essays and annotate each essay’s elements of effective reflective writing; thorough annotation will include highlighting, footnoting, and commenting. (Due on 12/12).
  3. Using prewriting techniques, determine topic for your own “My Turn” essay. (Due on 12/22).
  4. Draft reflective essay, obtain two peer edits in accordance with the due dates, and revise using rubric and editor’s feedback. Bear in mind that the final draft can not exceed 1000 words. (Due on 1/6).
  5. Finalize essay (500-1000 words)
  6. Complete Kaplan/Newsweek entry form for “My Turn” essay competition. Print two copies of essay and two copies of entry form. Insert two copies of essay and one copy of entry form in stamped addressed envelope. After your contest essays are printed and sealed in the envelope, revise your essay heading so that only your student number appears on the essay (including in the header). Print the student-number version of the essay and submit it, along with a copy of the entry form with your name blacked out, to teacher. (Due on 1/6).
  7. Each of these due dates will count as a 25 point quiz grade.
