Letter of Recommendation Procedure 2011 Which Teacher Should Write Your Recommendation? A powerful letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows you well is extremely important to the college admission process. I take great care to write heartfelt, honest letters with personal anecdotes that reveal who you are beyond the numbers. I cannot write such letters for students whom I have not come to know well. Doing so would be a disservice to you and would not help you gain admission to the schools of your choice. Therefore, ask for letters of recommendation only from those teachers who truly know you well, inside and outside the classroom. If you believe that I'm one of those teachers who can comment on you as a whole person, and that I will know some amusing or important anecdotes about your academic, leadership and social skills, then by all means, ask. How To Ask A teacher may need suggest to you that he or she is not the right person to write a letter of recommendation. Thus, it's important that you make an appointment to speak privately with that teacher so that you both can sit down and talk about what makes sense for you. Do not try to ask between classes or in front of other people. This is also a request that is quite time-consuming and is not something you should ask in an email. Please email me friendly reminders a week prior to your earliest deadline.
Step 4
I’m sure your family taught you this already, but thank you notes are an absolute necessity. Letters of recommendation are extremely time-consuming, especially for teachers who carry a heavy load of upperclassmen. I do my best to highlight your best qualities and minimize your areas of weakness. It’s a nice thing to say “thank you” to someone who helps you out that way.
